could I do it vertically and open both ends when needed? I think my fiance could build one for me =) i am so lucky to have a carpenter fiance huh =) but the only problem is he is too busy to do what I have planned for him! Well I think that sounds good! I really hope this works!

That would work as well. And it wouldn't be much trouble for a good carpenter to get a workable design.

Here is something I have been thinking about~ if I do a wire door on the side...what about crickets escaping! I am sure the small cricket my little leo eats would fit through a wirk screened door especially if it is on the side and not the top =( This might not work afterall. I still don't have the aquarium or materials but I keep thinking about things I could do or plan ahead.

Window/door screening wouldn't be big enough for a cricket to get through.

that is true...I guess I could do that. It would be easier to cut then the wired sceened tops> thanks...but ya know I had a cricket (small) glass container thing with a window screen as a lid that they chewed through =)

You have to make sure that it is metal screen and not the fiberglass kind.
The metal will hold them. I used that to cover the vent holes of the tubs I used when I ordered crickets online.
The fiberglass will let them out to party in your house!
