enclosure plans
finally im able to start production on the enclosure for jorge and jade. i have a basic plan laid out 7x5x3. i have some ideas rattling in the back of my mind to make the whole thing able to break down in sections to move it to a new location when needed. what I am looking for from you all is what I should do with flooring, being that these 2 igs have basically gone potty wherever they wanted for the entire time ive had them, im looking for an easy clean method possibly a false bottom that poop and urates can drop down to and not have them smearing it all over the place. but im not sure how this would work. has anyone done this and if so explain what you used, or better yet pics are great. i am looking to start production at the end of the month I will post progress pics as I go along.
Thanks in advance, Steve

SOme kind of bakers rack? I've never dealt w/ iguannas, but a bakers rack is smooth and roughly 1/2" grid stainless (usually). Find a local resturant supply store They'd have big ones.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. I'm sure would be great for you.But them, to walk on it? I can see toes getting caught in it and it generally being hard on the feet.

I don't know that I'd go with any kind of flooring that would allow things to drop through. I have rabbits, and I know that after extended time on any kind of grid-type surface, rabbits can get sore hocks and terrible problems with their feet. I'd worry that would be true for any animal.

I agree. Any sort of grid flooring with large enough openings would be a hazard for limbs and tails to get caught in and broken.

I know the mess can be a pain, but I'll agree with the rest on this one. The wire floor sounds like a good idea, but I could see a toe getting caught and breaking. Also from a past bunny raiser, the poop doesn't all ways fall thought either. The iggy poop would be bigger the bunny poop. Stick with something you can clean up easily, like floor tile.

i have heard of ppl using oil drip pans in the bottom of their ig cages and covering taht with news paper. they make it so the oil drip pan can be reamoved and they wash easily so easy cleanup but I am personally going to use linoleum with newspaper on top. i have learned that no substrate is 100 percent safe for iguanas but newspaper or indoor/outdoor carpeting is the best. I chose linoleum because of easy mopping and cleanup and the news paper for easy cleanup as well all I have to do is change the sheets once a day. easiest celanup so far. have fun building post some pics soon. i am building my own and want to see what others have done too. mine is 4' by 4' by 6' tall but it is only for one iguana. i am using pine 2 by 2's for the frame, chipboard for the walls and 3 panels of acrilyc glass for the 1 window and 2 doors (one on top of the other, two small doors making up one side.), and mesh for the top.
