It has begun

Any bets on how long its gonna take me to get this beast done?

What I did was took a horizontal set up and cut out the side peice of glass using a sharp razorblade, this peice of glass became the front. Since the top would no longer fit I resized it and replaced it, so the old top is the new top. I then cut the scrap peice and sized it up at the bottom. Now I just gotta clean it up, seal everything, and create a top that will maximize the light output. Its gonna be tough getting UV all the way down to the bottom

The next step is (after the sealing), get a plexliglass door for the small opening in the front. Then fit a false bottom and do some hardscaping with mortar and driftwood, then substrate and foliage. Nothing to it
1- Original tank on its side.
2- Removing glass
3- Glass Removed
4- Final Product

Interesting small project you have there but you have me perplexed on the (new) front. How are you going to attach a plexi door to the upper half?

As this new layout is obviously suited to an arboreal lifestyle rather than terrestrial do you need to have UV exposure all the way to the ground rather than just in a few frequented basking spots? By the way what will it be housing?

The tank will be housing at least a trio of Crested Geckos.

The plexiglass door will be attached using a hinge that will bill mounted on the plexiglass using small screws and the other side of the hinge will be mounted on the side of the glass using silicone (its been done with doors much bigger so Im not too concerned). A small hinge will be attached to keep it closed.

The lighting is more than likely going to be compact fluros or 2-pin based fluros, the specturm isn't a big concern b/c lighting is only for plants, the geckos don't need any light. Im thinking about 2 to 4 watts per gallon so two bulbs will probably be used. The fixture will more than likely be hung from the shelf above, mounting it doenst seem feasible. I want a well defined canopy so a sapling ficus (probably F.benjimina) will be the focal point of the tank. The floor will be covered with low light plants and mosses. I hope to achieve the visulization of lots of depth in the tank. All three sides are more than likely going to be covered with fern, cork, and coco-husk. I hope to photolog the whole process.

Well, I didn't take pictures of the whole process, probably because it took me over 6 months to complete. These pics are crumby, Im waiting to order my plants and I'll retake some but who knows how long that will take. Since I didn't take any pics if anyone has any questions let me know.
