disappointed in a petstore, again
So my Marble Gecko, upon a close examination, actually has a VERY well hidden gash on its head...up close you can see it's actually a large area where the bone is exposed right between the eyes. It doesn't seem to be affecting the reptiles health.
Oddly enough, to notice this injury, the gecko had to be in just the perfect light under its heat lamp. I didn't see it in the normal pet store lighting, 2 feet from my face!!
It looks a few weeks old, no bleeding, no swelling, no signs of infection. I applied polysporin to it, just to be sure, and the gecko is very active still and quite unfriendly. I think it'll be just fine- but make sure you check things out BEFORE you buy (not that I didn't, just poor lighting in the petstore I guess).

Thats what you get for buying from the petstore, I hope the poor little guy/gal is alright. I try not to go to the petstore if I can help it, but from time to time I find myself in there preaching to the mother with her 7 y/o son who is trying to figure out which iguana he wants...scars come in handy when i'm trying to make my point...

For some reason the sphagnum has dirtied up its feet so it can't climb the glass, yet the flying gecko is just fine with all that. Weird.
The marble gecko doesn't seem to notice that injury, it tried to escape today when I opened the cage and ended up biting me (I figured it would, but moving my hand there gave me a tactical advantage in the fight to wrangle it).

At a petstore where I live they have a leo that is quite large, biggest one that I have ever seen, and its a male and it had alot of marks on its head, like scratches, didn't put two and two together until I seen the other male four spots down, the dumb a** stupid idiot put them together not know they will kill each other, thats why you have to pay attention to what you buy, like said above!!!!!!!

Pet stores.....I think there should be a law that someone who opens a store should have to pass a test about the products the store wishes to sell! I go into pet stores ALL the time and always leave royally pi***d off. I saw 5 adult Leopard Geckos in a 10 gallon tank, no room at all, with about 15 crickets all over the Leopard Geckos' heads eating at thier eyes!!!! I find myself getting on a soapbox and "preaching" to the guy who says he's been into herpotology for the past 15 years. Yeah, well I may be a newbie, but I sure as h*** know that's not right.

Sometimes I go in just to rescue them...my male gold skink was in a 10 gallon cage, almost fully grown, with up to 30 others. 30! They were all smaller, mind you, but still! I love rescuing them from bad petstores, even if it does support the nasty business.

I agree with you Paleontology. Recusing can be good. Others might say 'oh yuor supporting them'. Now do you really think by not buying animals/products from a pet store is giong to put every single one out of bussiness? Don't think so, never. Pet stores will always be here. And we'll always have problems with them. I work at one - taking care of the animals. My managers are very strict about keeping things right. If anything we overfeed and pamper! Like Leopard Geckos - they want us to change the bedding in there twice a week. They go it one spot. Ask me, it doesn't really need done. But I hae to do it, company policy. I actually had to sign a new contract thing a few weeks ago on 'animal cruelity'. Number one thing for being cruel is not feeding proper diet and not being cleaned. By the way, I work at a Pet Supplies Plus. About the only problem we run into a lot is like said above, overcrowding. Like once they sent baby Veiled Chams, 5 of them!, to the wrong store. We didn't want to ship them again so we kept them and had to house them with our three. The next week we had sold 2 and seperated the males in females finally.
