new addition
Hey everyone! i am proud to introduce my newest herps.....3 juvenille gold dust day geckos! I decided against getting the flying geckos on account of mites. They are in a 15 gallon enclosure with cypress bark substrate and lots of live and fake plants. I am unsure of the sexes as of now b/c they are so little.
I did have a heck of a time getting them from their deli cups to the cage. One jumped on my arm, ran onto my back, jumped up on the wall and made a mad dash for the ceiling! I grabbed it as gently as grabbing can get. eventually I got all three in their enclosures safe and sound with the exception of the little wall climber's tail tip being torn off. I expect it to heal without problems. There were some minor skirmishes with what looks to be the most dominant and largest of the three. Let's just say that the others stay out of it's way. If they turn out to be more than one male, i will have to seperate them. Only one of them was at a place where I could take a good pic, but you get the general idea. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/...4/DSC00618.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/...4/DSC00613.jpg

the dominant male is really chasing around the others when he even sees another gecko emerge from hiding. I am afraid that the other two will be hurt by the dominant one, do ya'll think I should seperate the male and put him into a different viv or should I just wait and let them settle and establish territories and such before I do anything?

Adam, personally Id seperate them ASAP Gold dust days are EXTREMLEY territorial geckos and these traits start to show as juvenilles 15 gallons is a good size but only for a breeding pair max hopefully you have at least one female but definetley seperate them untill you know for sure

thanks everyone, i put the dominant one in his own 10 gal, the other two are cowering still in the corners under plants in their viv. I think i'll just give the dominant one back to the store. I dont want to have to have this extra tank on the floor (only place available) and I dont want to worry about cleaning two day geckos cages. I'll just stick with the two I have and the other one i'll take back. I assume that the bully is in fact a male, tell me if i'm wrong
thanks,

Im almost positive he's a male since females of the species arent aggresive at all (breeding season may different) Its always best to seperate bullies, in time he would've just ended up stressing the others.

Do only females have the calcium sacs on their throats? the mean bully "male" seems to have these sacs. Does it make him and her? He still is more colorful that my one female. I can really start to tell them apart now.

Hmmm Adam, thats interesting I think youre describing an endolymphatic sac and yes I believe they are just found on females who are in breeding condition. maybey shes being so agressive beacuse she is ready to breed like I said before females may get teritorial around laying time. None the less you should still remove her and return/sell/give her away since the two you have are fine now.
