Suggest a Good Free Roamer....

I've got quite the excapees problem no matter what I do I end up having crickets everywhere. I've broke the wife into the "Idea" of having a free roaming gecko. Though she would prefer it not be a Tokay. A few keepers I know keep day geckos free and have no problems, but finding 'where they put the darn eggs', but mine are a little young at this point.

Any one have any ideas? Or know if the following would be good; Gekko vittatus, Oedura monilis, Lepidodactylus lugubris, or Gekko ulikovskii (I'm thinking not on this one). There's a fair tomorrow so quick answers would be nice. And as always, Thanks in advance.

I know a few people that keep little green house anoles. The kind they sell as feeders.

I had thought about anoles but I think geckos have one up on them being able to climb smooth walls. As well as having a low UVB requirment.

Many use house geckos for pest control.

Re: Suggest a Good Free Roamer....

Thanks for all the input. We just got back from the fair a bit ago. My wife really fell in love with a crested gecko there. Though not really being what we were looking for. She ended up talking with the breeder there. When she heard we were looking for a free roamer she ask us about the year round temps in our reptile room and humidity levels. After a good look of puppy dog eyes and a stop to get a good-sized waterfall for the room to raise the local humidity in an area of the room, we left with a 1 year old male Crested. The breeder was really informative and also keeps a group of her geckos free roaming most the time. He's set up for now in a large Homebase cage that I put some plants and bamboo in and it has a few giant beetle larva in it. But they'll be no problem to him buried under the substrate.
