Info on My New Addition :-)
I would really appreciate some help with my golden gecko. I think I have covered most of her basic needs but I can't find much info on her really. For instance does she need a humid hide? Also, I am of the opinion that UVB is beneficial to nocturnal reptiles. Is this true or false? Substrate I chose for her is Plantation Soil and Sphagnum moss, is this okay?Lots of branches and tons of cover for her as well. I mist 2 to 3 times a day. Oh yes, she has a night glo bulb with the UVB bulb.

Re: Info on My New Addition :-)
Beneficial, yes. But they need a place to hide away from it when they want to. Lots of good coverage. And not too strong of a bulb. 2.0 is good.
Ditch the spagnum moss. It can cause impaction if eaten. I have no idea what "plantation soil" is. Can you elaborate?

Re: Info on My New Addition :-)
I think "plantation" is a brand name for potting soil and other soil amendments. If it is what I think that it is, it has chemical fertilizer in it and as such should not be used.

Re: Info on My New Addition :-)
Ugh, yes ORGANIC is the only kind of potting soil you should be using. Better yet, go for some shredded coconut fiber, the kind that comes in bricks.

No plantation soil is organic and is made by exoterra. It is rather like cocofiber(???) But plants can be grown in it without other soil.It comes in a brick also that expands in water.
So moss is bad? Okay it is gone then. How is cocofiber different than a moss? Isn't there a risk of impaction with either??Just asking as my Basilisks are on it too.

Re: Info on My New Addition :-)
Then its the same stuff. Whew. Toss that moss. Moss can get all wrapped around the intestines, getting caught up and cutting off circulation. The coco-fiber are all little bitty pieces and can be passed.

Re: Info on My New Addition :-)
I'm not sure what forest moss is? Live moss? Like carpet moss?
