Help Please!!!

Hi my name is Don I've had my sand-eye gecko for five years now. Recently I noticed him having discomfort, he seems like he is trying to push something out of his rectum. When I turned him over I saw a pinkish jelly looking sac coming out, about 3 mm. I don't know what to do. He seems like he is in a lot of pain, he stands all crunched up trying to push this thing out. He won't even go into his hut anymore. What should I do? I tried pulling on it but it didn't come out. I didn't want to pull to hard incase I hurt him. What should I do? Please help me and let me know asap.

Re: Help Please!!!

You need to get him to a vet.

Re: Help Please!!!

Does it go back in when he stops straining? If it doesn't it could be a prolapse and needs to be seen by a vet ASAP, but if it goes back in they may just be his hemipenies, and I don't know if its the same for geckos as it is for blue tongued skinks and iguanas, but when they overt their hemis without defecating they are generally 'releasing sexual tension'...if you get my drift.

Also if it isn't going back in you need to run it with some sort of water based lubricant (like KY) and keep it moist until you see a vet.

find one at Herp Vet Connection or ARAV
