Screen washing sand?

Ive noticed a gecko or two trying to dig into the repti-bark Im using for the substrate. I saw two of them "doin' it" and now I assume she wants to burrow to lay her eggs.. But I digress...

I would like to use sand for the substrate (or at least give them a container of sand in their tank) but Ive read that I should screen wash it. What does that mean and is there any reason why I shouldnt just give them sand in their whole tank?

Its the dwarf geckos, btw.. The capes and the yellow heads. I named them George & Weezie (the capes) and Tom & Helen (the yellow heads).

Re: Screen washing sand?

IF you use playsand made for kids, it usually is already washed and ready to use.....and great naming the geckos after the Jeffersons!....I used to love that show!

Re: Screen washing sand?

Great. Thanks. So I can just bake it to sterilize it and throw it in there. Itll be easier to scoop out the poop too this way I think. But can you tell what screen washing is even if I dont need to do it?

Oh, btw, my fish are named after the characters in Mel's Diner. lol.
