Skunk Gecko Info?
Hi all, ltns!
I am considering a Skunk Gecko (aka white striped tokay I believe) and I need to know any info about climate. I have an enclosure thats absolutely big enough, and its oriented vertically. All I guess I need to know is humidity, heat, food, bedding, & lighting info (lol, thats all). Do they require UVB, and if so, how much? I have a couple of spare UVB fluoro tubes I could give him if needed. Thanks for any info. I did searches for "Skunk" in the forums and I cant seem to find anything. I saw one at petco today and they are so pretty! Their eyes make me think Im having an acid flashback! lol.

I need to pay more attention. I read that page already but Didnt process the parts about food or substrate! So all I really need to know is if they need UVB. Should I assume that they dont need it since that page doesnt list it?

Just search for "Gekko vittatus" and not any of the common names. there are some threads here as well.
On my bookmarks I only have this caresheet from Sundial Reptiles which looks correct. They don't need UVB, but a low level lamp wouldn't hurt, like a used 2.0 or 5.0. I have mine on coco humus (I think you call it bed-a-beast) which is great to keep the humidity up.

Hey cool, thanks. Thats a nicely informative page. Do you know how they would do in a large enclosure with different species (as long as theres only one male)? Are geckos generally sociable? I'd like to house one with a crested gecko.

No! Don't think of it. They are agressive and not even slightly indicated for that. I've never touched mine and I don't dare to open her enclosure more than a few mm to drop food or water in. They are more the display type.
As for your plan, I strongly advise you not to do it except you have a lot of previous experience with the species you pretend to mix. Most seasoned herpers won't do community tanks because generally is a bad idea. But anyway, as a general pointer, to maximize your chances you should choose species that occupy different layers and timeframes. Mixing a diurnal, terrestrial, insectivorous species with a nocturnal, arboreal and herbivorous species will have much more changes of working than mixing two nocturnal, arboreal species with a very similar diet, like you were planning. Exceptions exist of course, and to take crested geckos as example, some people mix them successively with gargoyle geckos, a species that apart from a few minor things, is exactly like them.

I agree with Ricardo,, its never a good idea to mix species, they require different enviroments and can become aggressive and territorial if combined with others no like them.

Yeah, don't mix them. As for learning more about them, you can also try searching under the name "white-lined gecko", as it's their 'official' common name, or just "lined gecko", but the scientific name should suit you better. As you may have noticed by now, their care is very similar to that of tokays.

I used to have some a while back. Very hardy Geckoes. Like Matt said quite similiar to Tokays. Definitely watch the fingers.
