U. phantasticus something to Tick you off

After tring to find medications, to treat the parasites I found in fecal samples, I buckled and took number 1 to the vet, knowing she's likely gravid. He handled her like you would a leo, not gentle, not overly rough though I cringed. Is it possible that he broke her egg? We get home to see goo in the little deli cup we took her in then she layed the empty shell. . . I'm agrivated, 2 times to the vet once with Leopard Geckos once just now two unplesent experiences (two different vets).

It looks like it might be the case. Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll still have another undamaged egg in her. I guess it might be time to look for yet another vet.

Hello,

It's very possible that how the vet handled her did indeed cause the egg to rupture. At the same time, was any medication given to her while you were there? It's also possible that any medications given could have caused the damage as well.

I am thinking along the philosophy of pregnant women. Many medications state they should not be used in pregnant women. In some cases, certain medications can cause the developing embryo to die, the meds can induce birth, or still births can occur. If it can happen with other animals, I don't see why it couldn't happen with a gecko as well. was anything given?

Of course, if nothing was given, I would have to say that the rough handling did contribute without a doubt.

Poor thing! I hate it when vets mishandle the pets they're supposed to be caring for. A vet once picked up one of my gerbils by the tail, which is something you're never supposed to do. My gerbil was lucky his tail didn't break off, which is something that can happen from being handled that way. I never went back to that particular vet again. I found a much better one.

Nothing was given, at the office or previously. He was using the light to view the internals, and even holding a Leo upside down is a challenge, a satanic took some doing I'm sure.

And still people look at me like I have 5 heads when they find out I do my own fecals. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, I'm aggrivated because I knew I should have stayed away.

Moshpitchic, maybe right, currently only one shell and egg internals (technical name?) came out.

Sigh . . .

that is aweful. I think vets are ruff with my pets too. They say it is for their and the animals protction, and won't let me help when they are familiar with me ya know...so it makes it very stressful on the animals and myself. =(

Paul, it's possible the vet broke the egg but my guess is that the stress also caused the production of the egg to not be a priority for the gecko, in other words, there's probably less calcium being intaken and absorbed for whatever reason, thus she allocated the calcium for muscle contractions and such instead of reproduction.

On a side note, how did the fecals for the dart frogs look? I'm curious because its my understanding that almost every dart frog in captivity is laden with parasites, except for a few who propholactically treat and religiously quarintine.
