Re: A few Plants for the Mini Bog
Had one in the backyard of my previous house. It had a red pitcher. Not sure what species it was. Got to be a fair size though. Going to have to see pics of that bog when they're installed.

Re: A few Plants for the Mini Bog
kriminaal- It could have been S. purpurea or S. Flava var. red. I wish I could accualy install a mini bog in the yard but due to the weather I'm left using large plastic pots from Ikea. Or planting just S. purpurea and their hybreds. The first of them is planted though three of the larger pitcher plants are just becoming active again after winter.

Re: A few Plants for the Mini Bog
Heres a picture of the planted pot. It's still inside for the time as it's still fairly cold out I don't want the growing plants to go into a late dormancy. I have a pair of S. purpurea hybrids on the way that could be planted out S. purpurea is extremely winter hard.
![]() it's S. flava in the upper left just coming out of dormancy and ugly at this time of year. ![]() With just the winter pitchers. Can you guess what spc. this is? look hard. ![]() S. rubra var. gulfensis no pitchers but a flower on the way

Re: A few Plants for the Mini Bog
Not at all, most North American CP's really just need a few thing; Full sun, poor soil and the right mix (1:1:0 or 1:1:1 peat, perlite, Sand), mineral free water (rain or RO), and respect to thier winter dormancy. Fly traps, Sun dews and pitcher plants all grow easily given these conditions. And all are winter hard down to the frost point. Some pitcher plants are even winter hard down to -30C so they can be grown outside even in extreme weather. Care is really easy as all the plants grow in bogs and can be watered though the tray method or deep undrained pots so watering even in summer could be as little as once to twice a week.
