LoL! I love Hognosed Snakes! They are so silly looking. A while ago I ran accross this picture of a hog nose playing dead and it made me laugh so hard! He is so dramatic!!!

Hello, The western variety is a better choice than the eastern, the western will take frozen rodents with little problem. The debate over their bite is an ongoing thing, they are rear fanged and have a mildly toxic saliva, but the do not usually strike. I have had mine for a long time and he will occasionally strike at the fuzzy on the tongs, but always with his mouth closed.

when it comes to toxicity it alot of the times depends on whether or not you'll react to the venom or not. so saying something has "weak" venom and is not dangerous to humans isn't exactly true, you don't know how certain people will react.

be that as it may, hognose snakes very rarely if ever bite humans, so I don't think you would have to worry about it if you want one as a pet... too bad they're illegal to keep as pets in alot of states because they are a native species.
