It's been raining for weeks...not the pretty, good for your lawn type of rain, more like a typhoon so its been rather cold and yucky, but the clouds broke on Sunday for a few hours so I ran outof the house as quick as I could to enjoy it before it started raining again.
My efforts were almost futile, I thought that this little wolf spider was going to be all I had to show:

But as is typical of herping in WA as soon as I gave up and turned around to go home this little guy slithered right into my path:
Another Gopher Snake! 3rd one so far this year, this one was considerably smaller than the other two, and MUCh more docile:
I was starting to think he might be sick since he didnt fuss or even try to creep off when I picked him up, but I think he was just a little slow because the weather was so chilly:
I gave him a good look over and then put him back (and yes I go herping in my bikini top, it's called multi-tasking, I need to try to get some sun whenever I can!) No laughing at my freckles!
Then some creepy guy with a dog came out of no where (seems like it always happens that way when you are carrying expensive camera equipment and are scantily clad) So I picked up the snake until they were long gone and moved him a ways off the path which finally made him mad enough to hiss at me:
Now if only I could find more than one herp per outing!
