As Sean’s mother I would not allow any venomous reptiles captured during field herping. I will not allow him to own or handle anything venomous (I know most of you think I’m nuts but do you really think I’m that nuts that I would allow an eleven year old to get near anything that could cause him serious harm). When Sean speaks of field herping he is talking about crayfish, salamanders, frogs, turtles etc. He never goes out alone; his father accompanies him. I try to discourage him from bringing anything home on his herping trips.

LOL! Colleen I was wondering when you were going to join in on this! Colleen I have never thought anything of the kind. I believed you to be very concientious about the whole situation. I could not imagine you allowing Sean to get in harms way, in any manner!
The fact that you are a part of this forum along with Sean himself just reinforces that belief!

And by the way Sean, just for the record, I think you have a really cool Mom! My mother STILL will have nothing to do with snakes!

Merlin I've seen pictures of some of you snakes and I can understand your mothers feelings.lol Not ready for anything that big myself (maybe soon).As for venomous herps in Michigan, there is the Eastern Massasauga Rattle snake (in my 40+ years living in Michigan, I have only seen one and that was in Canada), Northern Black Widow and the Brown Recluse Spider (though Michigan State University states that there are now recluse in Mi). So I guess the chances of Sean running into a venomous herp in Michigan is limited. I'll make sure he watches out though.

If you are talking about the picture with me and the two BIG snakes, those do NOT belong to me but rather to Bob Clark. I don't even have anyplace to house anything THAT big.
At least not at the moment.
