6' Texas Rat Snake
I was at a show this past weekend selling my itty bitty snakes, and Sunday I got a call from a lady on the other side of San Antonio. The kids in her Neighborhood had found a Large snake and they wanted it gone. They told me that they had called Animal control before calling me. So, Knowing what the San Antonio Animal conrol would have done, I left my table in the hands of my wife and headed out to find this snake.
While talking to her on the phone, they told me that it was a Pink snake and very long. So I figured it was a Western Coachwhip (not a snake that I am interested in keeping right now). They also told me that it was in a bush. As I got there, I was promptly informed that while trying to put it in a bucket, they chased the snake up a tree where it was when I got there.
So, I started climbing the tree and came face to face with the largest black snake that I have ever seen in that area. took about 30 minutes of prunning the tree, but I finally caught it. I have it at home now calming down while I decide what to do with it.
I am planning on getting it sexed as well as getting the other one that I have sexed. If I have a pair, then I will be keeping both of them for future breeding. if I have 2 of the same, then one will be either going back to the wild in the spring, or going to the herpetology society in San Antonio to be used for education. I really want to keep this one as it is the largest I have come accross and it seems to have about the same attitude as most of me corns. it is very easy to handle and very docile.
I will be getting some pictures of it this week and will try and get them up before the weekend.
