Florida Trip During Rainy Season?

We are leaving for the airport on the 7th to fly down to florida. apparently, august is the peak of the rainy season. I am wondering how this will affect field herping in both a negative and positive way. if anybody could provide me with this information, that would be great.

also, we will be spending the night road cruising for herps, so maybe some info could be given on the affects of rain.

thanks all

Re: Florida Trip During Rainy Season?

yeah you picked the middle of monsoon season alright.

You'll have better luck herping on the hot sunny days for reptiles. If you're lucky, with the ground saturated, you might find an amphiuma, or other amphibians. Who knows. I know a see a lot of flat herps in the roads, so cruise slowly!

Good luck.

Re: Florida Trip During Rainy Season?

no - but sometimes it feels like that. It will be humid and sticky.

you're also coming in the middle of hurricane season. fun .
You'll probably get some rain, but I don't expect it will be so bad you can't go herping.

Re: Florida Trip During Rainy Season?

thanks again.

but the rain won't deter any of the snakes or lizards right? sorry that's a stupid question but I'm not really sure about the behavior of florida reptiles.

some of them will seek shelter during any actual storms, but will emerge again as soon as the weather lightens up. Don't worry - you'll see lots. It takes a hefty downpour to get all the creatures to hide.

Re: Florida Trip During Rainy Season?

Thanks for the help. But I'm just wishing for a clean, non-rain 4 days. I have a feeling that it might be beautiful, I mean it is 8 days from my birthday
