Back Home Again for a Bit...latest Herping Pics
Well back home from the wild again for a bit...
The last mission I was on...Lamprophis swazicus! An extremely extremely rare little snake not many herpetologist have seen alive. DNA is needed for these as they have realized they do not belong in the genus they are currently in! Well going was somtimes tough... it is virtually winter here and these are found up in the mountains. The swazi rock snake. It was cold, wet, alot of walking, climbing, hiking lifting etc. But found not one swazi rock snake . We found....three!!!!!! Whoot whoot...could get blood samples for DNA sequencing. Was awesome...unbelievable feeling. Also found a bunch of other stuff. Would love to write a long report on the trip but thought I will just put a bunch of random pictures...you can ask questions and I shall answer! Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() just a tiny slice of what was found |

I think it is a Red-headed rock agama. I may be wrong though.

*dies a little inside*
Curse my parents for raising me here. All we have are garter snakes. |

Re: Back Home Again for a Bit...latest Herping Pic
ok thanks for comments. The little lizards you are all asking about is the belly of Platysaurus lebomboensis. If you have watched planet earth...it is a
Lebombo Flat lizard almost like the flat lizards jumping around catching the flys by the waterfall. Look identical The males have extremely bright undersides which they use to communicate. The green snake is a spotted bush snake( Philothamnus semivariegatus) there are also two nile monitors, giant plated lizard, drakensburg crag lizard, swazi rock snake(the orange ones), Cross-marked grass snake and mozambique spitting cobra pictured. ![]() oh and nicole...not one tortoise! did find a terrepin tho |
