I'm on a roll
I went out to catch me some spring peepers on friday...and succeeded I heard several of them, saw a few, and caught one. I also saw a HUGE bullfrog, or possibly a green frog, but I didn't catch her.
Northern spring peeper Pseudacris crucifer crucifer
Here you can see the "X" on his back that spring peepers are known for.

We heard all kinds of them yesterday when shopping back in a wooded area. But with all the melting and rain we would need hip boots to look around. LOL Thanks for sharing your bit of spring.

Yeah, me too. I'm hoping to photograph as many herp species as I can this year. I've only seen one gray tree frog here in the last two years though.

Cute peeper, Matt! I was out at a park in Fairfax County, VA today, and the toads were breeding like mad! They were in a frezy, hundreds of toads, singing and splashing and wrestling and just having a grand time -- the naturalist referred to it as a "breeding ball," I think. I also saw some green frogs, some spotted turtles (two were mating) and 3 snapping turtles. Two of the snappers were honkin' huge! They were serious-looking predators!
