Post a picture, please! I have a LOVELY marsh behind my townhouse. I've seen turtles there and lots of bird life... I'm REALLY hoping for some salamanders... especially some endangered California Tiger Salamanders so they can't build houses on the site.

Could you be more specific on the spots? Maybe on size and texture too if you remember. As Amy said, it could be a red eft, but there are several other red species within TN, such as the following:

From your pics, definitely the Eurycea lucifuga. He/She didn't have a paddle like tail like the other two, and was very then, like pictured.

Well in that case....I'M JEALOUS! That's one of my favorite salamander species in the world. I would love to have one, but they're not a species you can buy.
