My wife and I were walking through my yard today, when she suddenly turned to me and said, "Let's go herping". So we grabbed a stick, a hook, a cam, and overgrown tupperwear and off we went.
The first thing I saw was a female southern fence lizard. She took off while I was trying to get the cam ready. I wish I had caught her instead so she could keep the male I came across later company. I caught him, and he is a beautiful animal with stunning blue sides.
Next, my wife turned over a piece of bark and found a mean scorpion on the other side. I say mean because he rushed the cam and stung it while I was taking his picture.
Next were two skinks. They're both male, and I think both are just five lined skinks, but the one regrowing a tail has very faint lines... I think he might be a younger broadheaded skink. We also saw a ton of water turtles and a very nice green tree frog my wife found. The white border was very bright and contrasted well on the green frog.
No snakes were found although a fisherman told us he saw a large red rat snake chasing a mouse about an hour before we arrived. We also saw tons of brown and green anoles in all shapes, colors and sizes, but they're so common we just kept looking for better herps while we had a good day for it. Pictures to be posted, check out the entire online album they're in for some more pics.
P.S. Looks like it wont display the pics in this post, although they still open the pic in another window if you click on them. Maybe a picture guru on the boards could help me with them.
