Dusky, the pygmy rattler

Well, it seems I'm getting to be known as the snake rescue guy in the area. A friend called me and said he had a snake for me to come look at. Turns out it's a Dusky Pygmy Rattler. At least he didn't kill it on sight. Here are two pics I took. I'll throw up some pictures of our new tiger friends in the furry section too. Check them out.

That's a nice looking rattler -- beautiful markings. I'm really glad the guy didn't kill it.
What did you do with it?

Dusky update

Well, Dusky is sitting beside me right now, in a cage of course. I'm going tomorrow to get a locking cage for him. I tried feeding him a mouse, but he's either not hungry or still too freaked to eat. Probably the latter, considering he was in a TINY sealed plastic box with no air holes when I got my hands on him. I dont know how long he'd been in there. He is really beautiful. I'll take some better pics when he's in his new tank.

He's surprisingly active, but very very mild tempered. He hasn't struck once, even when a finger was run beside his head on the outside of the tank. He tracked it, but never a strike. I also prodded him gently with a snakestick when taking him from the tiny container they had him in, and no striking then either. I'm still not going to put a hand on him, but happy to see he isn't bite-happy.

Glad you enjoyed my tiger pics. I have a lot more I need to put online. Have some lion and tiger videos I took too that are pretty nice.

You should take "Dusky" some where away from civilization and release him/her.

to keep or release

I respect your opinion even if it doesn't agree with mine. Why is that your opinion?

I say release. Animals in the wild are fewer and fewer each day. The populations need to increase, not decrease. I also will only trade in captive bred animals. But,,,,,2 each is own. Have you checked your state laws regarding keeping this snake ?

I'm assuming he has his VRL.

Which Riverview are you at?
