Hey Rich!
A few days ago I've moved half my mealworm colony to a setup much like you describe in your article.

The thing that strikes me the most is the difference in activity between both halves of the colony. The moved half (in "your" substrate) is always very still and the other half continues to move as they always did.
I don't know if the difference is that the original colony moves to find food and the new colony lives on food, hence no movement.

Do you (or anyone else) experienced something similar?

LOL....sounds like that could be the case....just lay there, eat and get fat....and then poof....become food for something else. .....Lyn

Sorry I didn't see this post sooner Ricardo. Yes, I go through the same thing. As the food is eaten from the new colony and it settles, the mealies will begin moving more. They will also seem to pupate faster in the fresh colony.

No problem. Sadly your method didn't work for me. That half of the colony start decaying and ended up in the menu.
I don't know what I did wrong but when the weather starts getting warmer I'll try again.
