Crickets, what am I doing wrong
Ok, I just had the second batch of crickets delivered today. They were delivered about 1-2pm, brought in the house. I got home at 4pm and put them in their aquarium. Of the 1000 crickets ordered I got about 100-150 alive. I've e-mailed the company and am waiting for a reply. I used a different company from the first time as about 1/2 were dead the first time. They have a heat pack with them when I open the box. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I'm sure glad I didn't have a Bearded Dragon shipped!!

I'm sorry to hear that. That's another reason that I'm glad I don't live up north. I checked around and I get my crickets from a company in Mississippi to avoid cold. I received 1000 last week and there weren't but 2 or 3 dead crix. This company also ships 10% more than the 1000 ordered. Heat packs don't work too good with screening on both sides of the shipping box and without the screening the crix will suffocate each other.

First time I used Tophat crickets from MI. Second time I used the Cricket Factory in CA. The Cricket Factory is send out another shipment tomorrow. I don't know what crickets run for in different area but they are $1.35 a dozen here. I go through about 1-2 dozen a day.

I've gotten the same results using wormman, and they never emailed me back when I complained....it took 6 days from shipping date for them to get here, when they said '2-3'

When I was ordering my crix on line I also was very pleased with Reptilefoods service. And I had crickets delivered in the dead of winter!
I ordered from Worman a few times and will never order from them again.

Darqfire, if you want to breed crickets there are other, most efficient, ways of doing it. I've been breeding mine for a while using a mix of methods found online but I started here.
But anyway, for most people breeding crickets is not an option. They are smelly, loud and have some requirements that for most people are just not worth the trouble. I wouldn't breed mine if there was a dependable industry here like there is in the US or UK for example.

I've been lucky the last two shipment have come in alive. I guess I need to pay more attention to the amount of crickets we have left and the weather during the winter months. I wouldn't have room for one more cage to breed crickets in. The rooms are getting filled and Sean's wish list is getting longer. He is on a holding pattern until his birthday in July. Me on the other hand .
