Crickets

well since I go through at least 100 crickets aweek it's cheaper for me to breed my own in the off season (winter) when I can't catch them myself...I just put the 3 in 1 reptile cave in one of my lizard tanks and I don't have any problems with them smellng at all...I've found that the ones that die are the ones that smell...just using a 10 gallon tank would work just fine...my crickets use my reptiles water dish to drink but it has to be the right kinda dish or they'll drownd...I catch alot of my lizard reps food...most of my reps are withc...I think there much more healthier than the ones ya buy at the pet store and they tame easier

I would be very wary of doing this. You stand a very strong chance of feeding insects that have been contaminated with pesticides or other chemicals. Even if you don't spray your yard your neighbors may and the insects travel.

A Canadian Company

If any body out there is looking for a respectable feed supply, especially if your in Canada like myself, or even the northern parts of the US, try Canadian Feeders. Rob there has been great, always delivered on time and in amazing condition (few to none dead). They also have a great selection... check them out at www.canadianfeeders.com

HI,

I'm looking for a respectable cricket company myself. I was thinking of breeding my own but I think it'll be much easier just ordering them bulk online. I read on one company's site (lllreptile, i think) that in the winter cold, crickets may arrive dormant. They appear as if they're dead but after about 6 hours in room temp, they will wake up, so they shouldn't be assumed dead on arrival until that period of time.

Anybody else hear of this?

Yes, its true, it happens to all crickets. The problem is that bellow a certain temperature and beyond a certain timeframe, the ones that appear dead are really dead =)

I guess that was the problem that I had with shipments from Wormman.
They weren't dead,...
They were in permanent dormancy

winter crickets

Hi I live in Saskatoon , sask canada The people I get my crickets from say they dont have any luck after -20 celcius. My last shippement they taped half the screens off and out of 750 about 15 were dead. alot better than the 90% dead the last time. crickets here run 9 cents each from the pet store. I missed the delivery so they took them to the post office for pick up man were the woman working there happy to rid of them. good for a laugh anyway.
