Dry Ice for Co2?
My local grocery stores carries dry ice. I haven't checked the price of it, but was wondering if this is an alternative to a compressed Co2 chamber?
My thoughts are to put the pinkies in the bottom of a high bucket with with a chunk of dry ice. As the ice "melts", the Co2 will settle in the bottom and euthanize them.
I just thought about this today, so the idea might be full of holes. I don't even know how long dry ice takes to melt.
Any thoughts on this either briliant or idiotic idea?

I have no idea if that will work or not, but I just smack mine against a hard surface. Yeah, its a bit more "hands on", and a bit more gruesome, but its also extremely quick. The mouse is dead before it knows what happened. I either put them in a bag and whack it against a wall or table top, or throw them on a hard floor.

Or, if you don't want to be a gruesome Matt, Put them in a cardboard box and cut a round hole in the side for the exhaust pipe of your vehicle. The carbon monoxide will put them into that permanent sleep. No pain involved.

Hey, the usually don't explode
Wouldn't CO2 and carbon monoxide take longer to kill them than a quick smack? Kind of like getting the gas chamber vs. having a piano fall on your head.

True, but it's kind of messy smacking pinkies or fuzzies.

Hello,
As the oxygen levels deplete, the mice go to sleep Matt. While they are asleep, they suffocate and never feel a thing. It does take longer, but its painless for the animal.
Have you ever smacked a mouse and didn't get him just right? I have. He squeeled, started doing the "kibby" and I had to whack him again.

This method is done usually for mice and/or rats that are to be frozen and the carbon monoxide is gone withing 24 hrs.

For my adult mice, I dislocate the spine from the brain - quick and painless - no muss no fuss.
I am more concerned about my pinkies. I don't just want to throw them in the freezer, as it is too slow a freeze for killing, um, I mean euthanizing.

Ya'll are terrible...I just use a hard soled flip flop, one good whack is all it takes. :|
The C02 will work. I recently had to use it to put something down, it was quick and painless.
