We have a trio of mice who have already had two very successful breedings -- our first litter was a full TWELVE babies! The best advice I can give you is NOT to buy your breeders at a petstore: the mice there are hopelessly inbred, and the majority of them are no longer capable of producing. We got ours from a reputable breeder, and have had absolutely no problems. We threw them in an enclosure, kept them well fed and watered, and within two months had our first litter -- the only reason it took that long was the time of year (apparently the source breeders took some time off too!)
We feed them the standard mouse fare -- bagged hamster/gerbil/mouse food, although we do tend to go with the nicer stuf so they have a good variety in the mix. Their enclosure is a herp tank (minus the herps lol) with aspen shavings for bedding, paper towel rolls for tunnels, and a little herp cave for nesting in (and don't forget the lid -- those little buggers can jump!) They seem very content. All we do is change their litter once a week and throw in some shredded paper towels for nesting when we notice rapidly expanding bellies. Next thing you know, you're finding squeaking pink jellybeans with legs!
