Yeah, as Lyn said, you don't need to separate them - they won't get eaten and should shortly turn into beetles. We then put the beetles in a container, with a couple of inches of bran or some kind of dry feeder food. They will breed and dig down into the bran and lay eggs, and in several weeks you should see some tiny meal worms riggling around. Feed these as normal and several weeks later they should get bigger and be ready to feed to the lizards, or do what you wish with!
We didn't think our first attempt was working, but we just left the bugs and a few weeks later looked into the tub and saw tiny mealworms, so they are pretty easy to breed!
