Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

This is what our member has to say: Is it possible that my crickets somehow bred in my Gray Tree Frog tank? Is that even good? I was adding some vine and plants ...

Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

Is it possible that my crickets somehow bred in my Gray Tree Frog tank? Is that even good?

I was adding some vine and plants today and when I sprayed the EcoEarth Coconut substrate down I saw these little bugs crawling around. Panicking, I plucked a couple out and upon further inspection -- they LOOK like very small crickets - down to the larger back legs and the 'V' shaped thing at the butt.

Is there something else that would resemble a cricket that may be lurking in my tank?

I have dropped crickets into my tank to roam, and many manage to stay around for a while -- (too many hiding spots on the bottom). But I've never left the big black ones in there - so I'm confused. Help?

Re: Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

Yeah, they lay their eggs in the damp eco-earth. I have the same thing happening here. I don't know what they manage to eat, other than coconut, because I haven't fed them anything crickets should like... which is almost everything anyways.

As long as the substrate stays damp, they will continue to breed.

Re: Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

Well, heck -- bonus for me! I'm about to need pinheads for my last little bitty tree frog, and I don't have to look farther then the other tree frog tank!

Since there are some crickets in the tank I do keep cricket food in there, I was just staring at the bottom to get an idea what the 'buggers' were doing and I did notice some were eating the cricket food crumbs on the floor of the tank.

Re: Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

Nice. It all works out well then. If you use the food as bait, it should be easy to catch the little buggers - maybe put some in a jar on it's side, wait a day, then just pull out the jar, complete with crickets.

Pinheads get expensive - it's always good if you can 'make' your own.

Re: Cricket Breeding in My Tree Frog Tank?

The crickets steal the lizard, frog food. That is how they survive in the cage I had the same problem with the crickets breeding in the eco substrate. I actually watched them take food.
