Feeding Pinheads to Gray Tree Frog

ok - I've read the caresheet on keeping/breeding crickets and a number of threads on the subject but I still have questions...

First, Clyde my Gray Tree Frog just graduated to pinhead crickets and I purchased my first supply of them yesterday. I wasn't sure what to do with them so I dumped all 18 in his tank. (based on what I've been reading I am surprised none drowned). This morning I could only find 5 left and one smiling and much rounder Tree Frog --- was this a bad thing?

Should I ration the crickets so he doesn't gorge himself? Although, the day before he only got a few small flying bugs I could catch outside because the fruit flies were all dead - so maybe he was really hungry.

Should I plan on keeping my crickets in a separate container and feed him a few each evening? And if so, how many?

Thanks again for your help,
Frognut

Re: Feeding Pinheads to Gray Tree Frog

I would feed him in a bucket, as many pin heads that he can eat in a 10 minute period daily. He probably was pretty hungry though. Growing frogs don't tend to over eat, so I wouldn't be so worried.

Now that he is on pin heads, be sure to dust them once a week with calcium powder. If you want to make a drive over, you can have some of mine. It only lasts a year (expires) and I never even come close to going through it all.

If he starts eating 10 a session, its most likely time to move up in size again.

Re: Feeding Pinheads to Gray Tree Frog

Thanks Schlegelbagel -

Looking at him tonight, he looks so different. He has filled out and made me realize he was probably being underfed. He's starting to be less the vibrant green color and more of a grayish color.

I added some small forked tree limbs and a bark hidy-hole (all cleaned and rinsed thoroughly) I'll get around to adding the Pothos when I get some organic potting soil.

I think he ate a few more crickets today, as I could only find one live one and one dead one in his tank.

Schlegelbagel contact me offline and I would love to stop by and pick up some calcium powder for the crickets --- and more importantly see your critters. I'm very interested in your set-up's and all your pets!

I've got a tupperware-like container (large size) and some screen. So I'll try feeding him every evening outside the tank for 10 minutes. Will this help make him less hand shy? Or should I not try to handle him much?

Thanks again, and I really look forward to meeting you and your menagerie.
