Re: Snack Food

Another vote in for separating. Building the two of them a bigger cage isn't going to help this problem. They need to be apart for the bullying to stop, and if you don't do that soon, your poor water dragon could stop eating altogether, or they could start fighting. You definitely don't want that to happen. So getting them separated right away is very important.

Neither waxworms nor butterworms are particularly good choice for "fattening up" a reptile. It's like fattening up a person on a diet of McDonald's burgers and candy bars. They may become fatter, but it's not healthy for them. First you need to fix the problems you are having with bullying, then you should stick to the healthy insects - only using the waxwroms or butterworms as a treat.

Once your water dragon feels safe again, he can start eating the way he should, and he'll get fatter in no time.

Re: Snack Food

Where did you read that butterworms were bad? I've always been told that they have been a better choice to use. They do have high fat yes, but their calcium is higher than most feeders. If you were wanting to fatten them up I'd use crickets and butterworms. The variety of using them with other feeders would help some.

Re: Snack Food

Let me see if I can find the information I was looking at for you. They may be a better choice than waxworms, but based off what I'd looked into, I wouldn't use them as regular feeders. Of course, I could easily be wrong. As soon as I find that information, I'll post it. If it's incorrect, I'd definitely like to know.

Edit: Here's *a* link - http://hubpages.com/hub/Butterworms

I had found a site that had a great deal of information on feeder insects and how amounts of things like fat and such effect the reptilian body, but I'm having trouble finding it again. I stumbled across it one day when I wasn't really looking, and so it may take me awhile to find it again.

I do remember that it said that regular feeding of butterworms over time will cause an imbalance of calcium in their system. I suppose, however, that if you know the levels your animal needs and you can adjust for the normal supplements you give them, they wouldn't do too badly. They're still high in fat and calories, though. Personally, I'd probably keep them as a treat, but that's just me.

Re: Snack Food

Yeah I read on one of those nutrition scale thingies that butterworms were the better choice.

Heres the odd thing, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The other day I saw the "bullied" dragon sleeping on the larger dragon. (the other one is only 2 inches larger), but I've read that the dragon usually sleeping on top is the more dominant one? :S The smaller one is a boy and so far it seems that the larger one is a girl.

Thanks for the link Typhanie!

You've all been such a great help
