organic potting soil and crickets

i was going to try raising crickets and read that I should use the organic potting soil for them to lay their eggs. the stuff I saw at steins was labeled organic but the ingredients listed perlite. is that those tiny white balls? since it comes in a 40# bag I wanted to use that as a substrate for my whites tree frog setup. is that safe? i always feed him in another tank not his enclosure. thanks.

Yeah that's perlite. I'm not into frogs. I'm not sure if they would try to eat it or not.

I would try to stay away from that. I think the Miracle Grow Organic Choice was what I found worked well... MiracleGro-Organics.com: Products Specific
I also mixed in some peat moss and sand as well...

I would stay away from anything that has perlite in it. You are just asking for an impaction.
You have to be careful with things labeled organic. Just because they bear such a label does not mean that they are safe.
Looking closely at the listed ingredients is a good idea!

Make sure the ingredients don't list anything unnatural, especially chemicals (fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, plant food, growth formulas, etc). There should be nothing in it but soil, or soil + peat mulch or something similar.
