Raising waxworms question??

I want to attempt raising waxworm for my leo and I've searched many website and found a lot of worm's food. I've question about food, can I use rice bran + glecerine + sugar(instead of honey) + Bees wax. Is my recipe is good for waxies? what should I add to my recipe?

and I like to know, How they can survive without water?

Thank you for your answer and sorry for my english

Re: Raising waxworms question??

I'm not sure on the best diet for waxies,,,,,my concern is that waxworms should be a treat for your leo, fed once a week at most. There is basically zero nutritional value in waxworms,,,,,no protien, all fat. You would be better off raising crickets, superworms or silkworms.

Re: Raising waxworms question??

I looked into before. They are not that easy to raise because of the moth stage.
Waxworms are the highest in fat content but do have protein levels as well as high fibre content. They are a good way to put weight on an animal but definitely should be used sparingly.
Here's the breakdown of Superworms to Waxworms , Crickets
Moisture, % - 59.37 , 61.73 , 69.07
Fat, % - 17.89 , 22.19 , 6.01
Protein, % - 17.41 , 15.50 , 21.32
Fibre, % - 6.80 , 7.69 , 3.2
Ash, % - 1.20 , 1.02 , 2.17
Ca, ppm - 124 , 283 , 345
P, ppm - 2320 , 2161 , 4238
CA/P ratio % - 0.053 , 0.131 , 0.081

Of course keep in mind that your herps are what your feeder insects eat.
Always, always gutload.
