Re: question

I believe its when it sheds the exoskeleton and starts the stage of turning in to a beetle.

This caresheet has some information about it.

Re: question

Mealworms are naturally tan colored. They will be white immediately following a shed of their exoskeleton. It is at this time they are softest.

It seems to be the time they are the most tasty, too. When I'd feed them to my water dragon, he'd go for the newly shedded ones first. Maybe just because they were soft. Who knows?

Re: question

If it looks neither like a worm or a beetle than its a pupae. The worm is metmorphosing into its adult beetle stage.
