Re: ???crickets????
I would't think you'd need any light for crickets. They are more active at night. I keep mine in a container with a spotlight. It keeps the moisture down which creates the smell. They grow faster with the extra heat so if you want to keep them the same size I don't recommend it. I need various sizes so I buy 1000 of them at the 2/3 size. With the heat some grow quickly. Others not so much. So it gives me a good variance of sizes.

Re: ???crickets????
I have a timer on a shop light on top of my cricket container with a 40 watt bulb. I know they like it because they tend to sleep right under it. The last batch of crickets (500) I lost 2, so I must be doing something right.

Re: ???crickets????
my friend also has WD's and he has a cat that is going crazy trying to get into his feeder tank, and asked me if he could keep them in a cabinet where there is no sunlight, then I started wondering the same thing because mine are kept in the dark too but it never occured to me they might need some sort of light, so that is the reason I ask
i find it is either half the batch dies or very few die!?!?! i also was wondering if 32$cad is a reasonable price for 1000 crickets because I was at a reptile expo on sunday and they were selling them for 15-25$......yet again the expo is only a few times a year so that might also be a reason it is so much cheaper |

Re: ???crickets????
Whereabouts in Canada are you located? I get them regularly for $20. If I order them online they are from $30 to $45. But being the cheapest isn't always good. I've used some places where half the crickets die before I can use them so that in effect doubles the price. If you're in Ontario I can direct you to a few places if you're nearby. Sounds like you were at the show in Missisauga.

Re: ???crickets????
I don't know, always kept crickets near the cages, but not with special lighting. My problem is they always die on me, or some always escape. My critters don't appreciate crickets anyway. They just look at me and say "i'm not eating that jumpy noisy thing".
