Re: Superworms

It's ok to keep mealies in the fridge for a time. But not supers. It will kill them.

Re: Superworms

I used film canisters (plastic ones) and spice jars when I was breeding supers. If you take an adult worm, and toss him in with some substrate (also known as food), he will begin curling in a few days and the process of morphing into a beetle will begin.

You can also use egg crates. I tried them a few times as well. The only issue with them is that you need to cut out small pieces of cardboard to "cover" the openings. The covers also need air holes poked in them.

Re: Superworms

I've bred superworms for years. It all started when I purchased my first superworms at the store. When I brought them home, I removed them from the wood shavings and transported them into a well ventilated large plastic critter keeper. My substrate consisted of bits and pieces of everything from the pantry; rice, beans, dry pasta, raisins, (careful though because oatmeal gets moldy fast) along with something for moisture like wet lettuce or carrot. I began feeding them off to my leopard gecko and the ones who began to pupate I separated. They grew to beetles, I bought more and the cycle continues. Every now and then I have more beetles than worms so I have to buy more but I always have that cycle going for backup.

Re: Superworms

I'm currently trying to figure out the best temperature for hatching the eggs. I want to get the best yield I can. I had one batch that was good but then hardly anything from another.
