Chicks as feeders?

Well it's that time of year and I was wondering if there is any health risks to using baby chickens as feeders for snakes? The only thing I can think of is the higher risk of salmonella poisoning but I know that reptiles already carry that in some cases.

They will be treated just the same as the rat feeders so it's not a question of being humane with it or not..

Just looking for some feedback on the subject.

My experience with anything that is high in protein is the feces really stink a whole lot more.

That time of year??? you mean Spring??? Im not sure I would want to switch my snakes to chicks....arent they more expensive? and if the snake doesnt go back to mice or rats, wont that cause a problem??? I know there are places that sell frozen chicks...but why change????? I wouldnt....just my opinion....

I have never personally used them. However, from folks I have talked to that do feed poultry to snakes it makes the stools runny and a lot more odorous!
And as Lyn pointed out they could decide they like tham and not want to go back to rats.

consider yourself lucky I pay 10.99 a piece for the large rats and 8.99 for the medium and I pay 3.49 for a mouse you would think they were exotic, lol . I need to look into a mail order company or something! King Arthur now costs a little over 10.00$ a week to feed and Cleopatra almost 30.00$ a week. The pet store loves me once a week! And we wont go into the 2 pythons I have let alone crickets, greens, and the list goes on. I am however adding to the snake population soon with the 2 red tail boa that are quite large so I imagine that will add at least 60+$ if not more a week to feed, once I get them feeding.

After I re read this I really should not have thought about how much money I spend because WOW Its a good thing I like them all, LOL
All that money and I could have had a maid and pool boy

Get yourself a chest freezer Nicole and buy the feeders in bulk ....they can last a couple months frozen if kept properly. and the bill will be far less than what you are paying!!! I know poor....so I shop thrifty.....good luck!!
