Rat losing fur.....

Ive had this happen to some other of my litters and only the ones born with the wavy fur get this, they lose their fur and then grow it stright, notice the fur on the ears as well. Weird. I have no furless rat genes.

Are the litters housed together? I know from rabbits that one will eat the fur off the other is they have a protein deficency.

Yes they are and I thought of that too, but I would think the rest would show signs as well. Right now I isolated her right now to see how it goes. Just weird is all.

You could also consider fur mites, this will sometime cause hair loss.

Re: Rat losing fur.....

i can't view your pic for some reason, but from the way you describe it, sounds like you have some double rex babies. the ones i've had have grown in wavy hair as fuzzies, lost all , or almost all, hair as weanlings, then grew back sparse, short straight hair as young adults. i have a double rex dumbo male that is the cutest thing ever with his very short thin hair, very silky - and it helps that he has a sweet disposition, lol.
hope this helps
