I don't really see what's wrong with feeding live creatures to your reptiles/amphibians as long as they are the right size.I feed some small snakes and lizards to my sailfin lizards once in a while when I find them.I know all the kinds of reptiles in the country I live in though so I am not stupid enough to give a wragler's viper to my lizards.I live in the philippines.I give my lizards rodents as well but then again I make sure that they are too small in comparison to my lizards for them to hurt my lizards in any way.Another thing I noticed was that my lizards always manage to grab their prey by the head and they are normally dead by the second crunch.I understand that some people say it's inhuman but then there are many billions of non-humans out there that kill their prey the natural way and if nature did not require a freezer for the past million years then I don't see why rodents need one.If it really bothers you then you might as well cover your eyes.If the rodent is proportionally sized but able to inflict damage then you might want to try and reduce their energy levels somehow,ex. I shake my crickets so they get dizzy and become easier to handle.I do the same with fish.As long as you know when your lizard is most active I don't see a problem unless rodents are really not part of that animal's food in the wild.I try to stick to "natural" and therefore I only give rodents every 5 weeks and a small reptile every 3 weeks.
