I pretty much second what the rest have said. What the pet store has told you is wrong! And let me guess,....THEY sell you the pinkies?
Snakes need to have a resting period between meals so that their digestive system isn't constantly running full out. Theirs works a bit different than ours and use enzymes as opposed to acids. Feed a youngster every 5-7 days. As for how big the snake's head is you would be amazed at what they can swallow. The prey should be about the size of the snake's body at the widest point. You should see a lump of a day or two after feeding.
As for the activity level,...thats just a cornsnake for you.
