Crickets dieing . . .
Ok I managed to kill 500 1/8 crickets, my fault totally 1) no ventilation 2) to much humidity 1+2=dead . . .
Here's what has me stumped, night before last I noticed when we put the crickets into the Satanics enclosures they died in a few min, last night same thing, I blamed my wife for not cleaning the tanks throughly and leaving some of the provent-a-mite in there, so I took 2 of the tanks and CLEANED them scrubbed rinsed with hot water, dried same with the furniture. Spray the tank for humidity, and put 1 cricket into each, 30 min later check and . . . dead, sorta more writing in pain, look like a dieing bug would legs twitching, one was trying to drag it's self around, but legs were not providing the coordination needed for locomotion.
So I got to thinking . . . Oatmeal? Yeah oatmeal it swells when it gets wet, and thats what I was feeding them (crickets) would the humidity in the tank swell the oatmeal enough to kill a cricket?

Its a possibility. I keep my crickets and my supers on oatmeal, but I have lots of ventilation for the containers so there is no humidity in the tank. I throw in veggies every couple of days for moisture and my feeders seem to live quite awhile, especially the supers,,,they never die, lol.

It's just extremely odd, their container is fairly dry, but soon as they get into the humid tanks they die. They don't swell and pop, but they act like they have nerve damage, twitching, dragging the back legs, just odd.

That's very weird indeed! It's the same cricket species from your regular supplier?

it had to have been residual mite spray, in the new tank it's not happening.

I'm glad it isn't happening anymore...it's amazing how persistent pesticides can be, even when you think they've been cleaned out

Most be pretty potent stuff, for both My wife and my self scrubbed the tanks on two separate occasions, she cleaned them with dawn, and I cleaned them with Armstrong floor cleaner (didn't have much else).

Seems to me that if you sneeze, half your cricket colony keels over. :P
Love using roaches and supers as food.
