Re: dying crickets

It sounds like a baffling situation. I've thought about it after reading through the thread more than once. The residual mite spray might have been the first problem? The cleaners also could have been contributing factors. Even after rinsing thoroughly many still leave residuals on the surface. (cleaning is my profession) I won't go into the reasons why they don't rinse off 100%. For cleaning the best thing you can do is use 3 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water and wipe down good a few times. That should kill even mites (cheaper too) then rinse thoroughly, wipe down and let air dry the rest of the way. That will kill 99% of anything, germs, mites, strep, etc.

For the best things to feed/water crickets of any size is cat/kitten food, dark greens, oatmeal, or any dry reptile food. For water just cut a potato in half and put it in there cut side up. Red potatoes last longest and are favorites, regular white potatoes dry out faster though they do work. Using this method I rarely lose any crickets and I buy by the thousand.

Hope this helps.
Kenn

Re: crickets

So glad to help you Tha3rdman. Do you already have a place to buy your crickets 'bulk'? I go to http://www.wormman.com. Last time I bought it was around 18 something for 1000 delivered.

They're ALIVE. LOL

Normally the other half does the food orders but reptilefood.com is one of her favorites 1000 mealies and 1000 crickets shipped was 32 dollars, live arrival guarantee which I have used twice I think with no hassle.

I'll check out wormman, but still looking for a bulk isopod supplier in the states.

Edit: Going to try working something out with one of my terrarium supply suppliers

Just a note concerning Wormman.
Many of us here have tried them with dismal results.

I see senor', well stay with what works, reptile food hasn't yet steered us wrong, except for the day they charged us 5 times for 1 order, Web site issues, but refunded immediately.

Well should have headed the warning written on the wall. I ordered on wormman early fri before turkey day, and their site said if ordered before 9am Friday they would ship out the Monday before thanksgiving. I get a mass mail Tuesday saying they will ship all ordered Monday after the holiday. And here it is Wednesday after thanksgiving and still no feeders.

Anyone have a live on any other suppliers that carry isopods.
