Anyone know the size of a full grown springtail? Ive found tons of pics but nothing showing the relation. Cultures are really cheap and I think it would help clean up my viv.

They're tiny and they can jump really good. They're about 5 mm long and have a "tail" that they use to jump. They love moist conditions and feed on fungi and plant matter. If you were going to use them as feeders, I'd be careful or they may infest your tank. They love moist soil but will die if the humidity goes away.

Yeah, they're not very big. If you know what they look like and where to look for them you could probably find a whole bunch right in your neighborhood. They congregate and breed in large groups so if you see one you'll most likely see a whole bunch more.

Where were you going to get them anyway? I've never heard of springtails being used as feeders before.

I use springtails to feed my small dart frogs. I get my cultures at lfscultures.com, they reproduce like crazy too, so you only need a few to start up a good colony of them.

Yeah, for dart frogs they'd be great. Just the right size. I think I may actually have some in my lizard tank. Nobody eats them, but I have an all natural tank with soil and live plants rooted right in. There's even worms in the soil and little bugs that help clean up lizard poo.
