Different species of caiman look different, but there are certain characeristics that will set them apart from alligators. How big is the one you saw? And I assume you're in Florida? A baby alligator is black and yellow, which a caiman is not. Specktacled caimans have bony ridges in front of their eyes. The snout is not as rounded in caimans, and the side profile of the top jaw is more irregular. They have higher ridges on top of their eyes too, which almost make them look like they're angry. Caiman may also have black markings on their jaws that alligators lack. Here are some pics of alligators and caimans for comparison, though these are adult and subadult animals.

OK it's getting late and it's taking too long to upload a picture of him so if you don't mind I e-mailed you a picture of him/her.
Thank You for your quick post back to me.

Haven't gotten the email yet, but I look forward to seeing it. I love IDs. Why do you have a crocodilian on your hands now?

Sorry, the email went to my junk folder for some reason, which it should NOT have done. I apologize to anyone else that's eent me emails that haven't gotten replies. I haven't checked that box in months cause it usually doesn't filter unknown emails.
Anyway, that's an alligator. Caimans arn't black and yellow like that. Is it a new pet you bought or something?

NO not a pet of mine it's illegal to have gators in Arizona. I own and operate a company here is my website: www.allanimalsrescue.com (so you can get a better idea of what I do for a living) I rec. a call from a woman who had this in her kitchen I guess they were doing some remolding to their home which they live next to a mountain anyways and were leaving their doors open for their dogs to go in and out and at 10:30pm she found this in her kitchen! I thought she mistaken it for a lizard so I went to her home and removed it that's how I have it! I have to keep it untill Monday and than transport it into the Game & Fish office.
My job is never boring!
Thank You.

Man, I wish I could find alligators in my kitchen. Hope the Game and Fish can find a good place for it.
