Look Ma, No Enemy?
'Torture' alligators seized in drug raid
September 4, 2008 - 8:03AM
Brazilian police say they've literally taken a bite out of crime.
Officers raided the home of a drug dealer's mother-in-law today and found two alligators, one of them almost two meters long, said police inspector Ronaldo Oliveira.
Police speculated that traffickers used the jacarei alligators to help them dispose of bodies and to torture captured members of rival gangs, though they gave no evidence of anyone being eaten or tortured.
Oliveira said the woman didn't know the animals were in her house and she was not arrested.
The alligators were turned over to the Rio zoo.
Police also arrested three men while seizing several guns and a small quantity of drugs during the operation in the Coreia shantytown, Oliveira said.

OMG! That's horrible. I have to wonder how you can have two alligators, one that's 6 feet long, in your house and not know. I'm glad they turned them over to the zoo, where they'll (hopefully) be taken care of properly.

Wow; that lady is obviously nothing like my (nosey) mother-in-law if she had no idea alligators were being kept in her house.
I'm happy they didn't kill the gators, though.

Hmmmm so the tendency to sensationalize and blow things all out of proportion extends to Brazil as well!

Re: Look Ma, No Enemy?
Now while I agree that the chance she didn't know is slim, it isn't impossible... Both my parents have bad knees and can't do stairs easily. When we lived in a house with a basement, that was totally my territory. I loved it because I never had to worry about them coming downstairs because of their knees....
Really good news that they didn't hurt the alligators.

Re: Look Ma, No Enemy?
Yes but I am assuming that you didn't haul large chunks of meat downstairs and large debris from cleaning up!
Not to mention the smell!

Re: Look Ma, No Enemy?
It is Brazil, after all. And President Bush would tell you that there could be a Brazilian ways that it could happen.
