Boy’s arm bitten off by alligator - Life - MSNBC.com

SLIDELL, La. - An alligator has bitten off an 11-year-old boy’s arm in Louisiana, sheriff's deputies say.

Devin Funck was playing in a neighborhood pond in a subdivision about 20 miles northeast of New Orleans when the alligator pulled him under, deputies say. The alligator was described as between 10 and 12 feet long.

Relatives told The Times-Picayune that he managed to free himself. He was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition was not available.

------------------------------
Note ~ When they say, "that he managed to free himself" do they mean after his arm was gone that the rest of him was no longer in the gator's mouth?

Re: Bad Gator!

Maybe we shouldn't be playing where alligators live instead of shooting the alligator dead. They were here first....

Re: Bad Gator!

Wow, they knew the alligator was there, yet they let their kids swim there anyway? What's wrong with that picture? Poor kid, but even worse, poor alligator. It's not his fault that the parents didn't teach their kid to respect alligators. Dang.

Re: Bad Gator!

It's an ideal pond to swim in, clean, beautiful...
people know about the alligators that swim in the small lakes...

So much for being an ideal pond to swim in. Not to sound cruel or anything, but I see no point in feeling sorry for somebody who does something blindly stupid.

On a side note, I thought this topic was going to be a posting of the video where a performer at a national aquarium in china had his arm ripped off while doing a show with an alligator (he stuck his hand in it's open mouth after hitting it on the nose a few times and it bit down and rolled, yet everybody seemed surprised it happened).

Re: Bad Gator!

It's sad, though, that it always seems to be the innocent ones that suffer from something like this. He was just a kid - kids don't ever see real danger. He was just doing what kids do, and really can't be blamed, but he's the one that's lost an arm.

Where, exactly, were his parents?

Re: Bad Gator!

I wouldn't be swimming in any body of water named crystal lake. Haven't these kids seen any Friday the 13th movies?
