Can you really be sure?
Due to extreme boredom and an earlier discussion of something everyone's heard; I figured I'd see the actual results of the "Rule" in distinguishing an alligator from a croc.
I also added photos of caimans, so you can either add them as alligators or as caimans.
Species name for each would surely rock.
Thanks,
Zane

1st one: croc " Crocodylus acutus" (2nd guess: Crocodylus rhombifer)
2nd: gator " Alligator mississippiensis"
3rd: caiman? " Paleosuchus trigonatus" (Mabe Osteolaemus tetraspis?)
4th: croc? No, caiman. No croc. I dunno. " Melanosuchus niger"?
5th: gator? " Alligator mississippiensis", C'mon, its too far away
6th: croc " Osteolaemus tetraspis"
Was I close? That last one's gotta be either an african dwarf crocodile or a cuvier's dwarf caiman, but I think its the croc. No gharials though? What's up with that?

You know, you had most of the correct names, except in the wrong places. Number two was correct though. As for the Gharial, I do not own one or yet to get a decent photo of the only two I've ever seen. I'll be visiting the Zoo that I know has some this month so I'll see what I can do.
Try again?

lol, oh great, now I'm even more confused. Ok, we'll try this again.
1st: croc "Crocodylus novaeguineae "
3rd: croc "Osteolaemus tetraspis"
4th: croc "Crocodylus rhombifer"
5th: caiman "Melanosuchus niger"
6th: caiman "Paleosuchus palpebrosus"
Ok, well now that its been narrowed down quite a bit, I think I got a lot more right this time, right? Plus I paid more attention to the teeth this time. I'm gonna get them all! That first one's giving me trouble though. Iits a complete side view, so I can't see how wide tha jaws are or anythimg, which would help. If I don't get them all right this time, it won't take too long to figure them out. There's only 23 species to choose from!

Seems the second is easily pinned..
Here is a photo of the 1st animal when it was younger.

As for number five, you're close but not quite and for number six you were very close.
Good going, I didn't think anyone would get the dwarf croc.

lol, I saw a show about dwarf crocs last year at my grandma's house
Ok, we'll try this AGAIN.
5th: " Caiman latirostris"
6th: " Paleosuchus trigonatus"
5 is a tough one cause of the angle, but since it looks so much like a gator, I'll try a broad-snouted caiman. 6 I just picked another Paleosuchus since the first one wasn't it.
So how many of the above crocodilians are yours?

Very good.
The 5th animal is a yacare. Truthfully, being angled as it is, I would have been lost as well.
Only the saltwater and the Smooth front are my animals. The others belong to a friend. I wish I could get my hands on a Yacare, Cuban and dwarf croc.

lol, yeah, it would have taken me forever to figure out 5. I don't have much desire to have any crocodilians other than an american alligator. Hopefully someday I'll have a yard big enough for one, and I'm sure I could adopt an unwanted one. In ND the pet store will sell baby gators to anyone with $180, no permit needed or nothin

I heard that gahrials are primarily scavengers and have found plenty food in the Ganges river. The food they are finding plentiful are the bodies of the dead humans that the residents place in the river after an indian style funeral.
