Gator bite

Today I received my first gator bite(not proud by any means).
I was getting ready to do a show.We have a pond set up for the 2 footers, and grabbed him by the head like I was taught.Got him on the ground between my knees getting ready to put a band around his mouth and then WHACK!Grabbed ahold on my leg!I wont post any pics b/c its nasty and I ended up with 12 stitches.Thats a whole new kinda pain right there folks. When you deal with them make sure you have some back up.And working at a zoo you have to remember 3 words---Get It Off.When you hear someone say that they're in trouble and I used em today!

I hope your leg heals up fast, that doesn't sound like a very fun thing to have happen.

Not the first three words that would have come to my mind! What an experience!! I hope your leg gets better soon!
Call me a sicko but pics would interest me.... maybe you can post pics of the scar afterwards!
How many people did it take to get the gator to let go of your leg? Did the gator do that "bite and roll" thing?
(I hope nothing bad is going to happen to the gator because it bit you.)??
Get well soon!!!
Here's another good word to remember while you're recovering: "painkillers"!

Glad to hear you came out alright. Probably could have been worse.

I too would like to have the pictures. With a suitable warning they should be posted, but for a reason.
From time to time we get people who want to try keeping a crocodilian as a "pet".
Lets give em an example of how much damage even a small one can do!

Do you have a different kind of respect for the crocks now? I know you did everything you were taught, but in hind sight is there something that you missed, something you would have done differently? I know your love for the animals will not change your desire to work with them. I hope everything works out and your leg heals quickly. I agree with Merlin the pictures would be educational.

just 3 words? I figured it'd be 4 Ahhh/S**T/(insert any other explicative here), GET IT OFF.

Thats rotten though, but being one who has always learned the hard way, I bet you'll have a higher level of concentration next time. Though it was only a 2 foot leg biter not an 8 foot man eater I see you got off with a warning, a shot across your bow so to speak. I'm sorry I'll shut up now . . .

Had the exact same incident a 4' caiman some years back. Grabbed me right on the knee. Didn't have to get pieced back together though it still sucked, kinda surprised you did, also surprised you stradled him as you would a larger crocodilian, even in an institution.
Good to hear nothing major happened though.

Pictures are always great.

wow, sounds like a learning experience...I have the sort of morbid curiousity that would make me want to see pictures too
