Is this normal?!

I think I've pretty much posted something frantic and concerned every day now... I never worried this much about my cats. Sheesh...

Anyway, I just fed William, and at first I thought the pinky was an ok size... but after he ate it I noticed that it was bulging, which supposedly isn't good. He is sort of breathing hard, and he keeps opening his mouth really wide, like he is yawning, and he drank a ton of water. Is that normal? Before I always cut the pinkies up into thirds, but this one seemed so small...

I need chocolate.

** Hands Queenie some chocolate**.....

How big does the buldge look? Some snakes, if the prey is a little larger, will have to reset their jaws, which is done my what looks like yawning.. Is the pink working its way down?

It doesn't look TOO huge... Though he did sort of get stuck trying to slither under his piece of bark, which would have been cute if I wasn't worried. I'd say, rough estimate, that the area where the pinky is is about 1/4th larger, maybe not that much. It's hard to tell!

The pinky moved down pretty far, more than halfway.

Do you usually feed him rat pinkies or mouse pinkies? A pinky should be an ok size for him. And yeah, there should be a buldge in his tummy but mouse buldge should be this way:

and not this way:

After they eat they might adjust their jaw for a bit and open and close their mouth. A lot of snakes drink a lot of water after shedding and drinnk water after eating. They don't drink all the time but I find that when joe drinks that's usually win (it's so addorable). I'm beginning to think it's because it leaves a bad taist in his mouth. Like when I was feeding him dewormer he'd come over to my hand like he was going to bite me and just rub his face back and forth into my palm till he drooled the dewormer out like a kid wiping something off his face.

LoL! How cute! ... and kinda gross at the same time.

I give him mouse pinkies... The rat ones are way too huge. But the bulge does look like it is in the right direction, and he seems to be doing just fine now, though he just went off to hide over the heater to I don't have a visual lock on him right now. Poor thing. I need to leave him alone and let the poor guy digest.... but I keep going downstairs to stare at him!

Anyway... thanks for the help. I am feeling much less concerned now.

LOL It sounds to me like you, and the snake, are doing fine! If the pink is too large the snake will either not swallow it or will regurg it. However if you keep pestering him it will probably regurge it anyways. Just leave him be for a couple of days.
If the snake regurges your nose will let you know pretty quickly!

Ok... I'm leaving him alone, with much reluctence. If this is any indication of what sort of mother I am going to be, my kids, and the local emergency room, are going to hate me!

Thanks again everybody!
