Try soaking in some luke warm water first, that may help loosen the shed. Do not pull on it, it will come off when it's ready. If it doesn't come off in a couple of days let me know and we'll come up with an alternative.

It is important that the tip of the tail and the eye caps in particular are shed properly, as otherwise the blood supply can be lost and therefore the tip will fall off, or in the case of the eyes blindness can occur. Give him a soak in warm water for up to half an hour and then gently try and coax the skin off. If it doesn't come off easily DO NOT force it.

The actual tail, not the shed?

Well, if this is happening it would suggest that the skin has been stuck in previous sheds, and the circulation to the tail end has been cut off meaning that the tip has basically died.

Nothing you can really do - one of our male hognoses had the very tip come off, due to stuck sheds,. it bled slightly but we touched it with tamodine to stop infection and it has healed over lovely now. Best to keep a very close eye on it in the future, and increase humidity slightly or give baths when in shed to ensure a good, thorough shed.

What do you mean its starting to bleed? Are you talking about where the shed joins the old skin or something else? How far from the tip of the tail is it where the tail looks like its coming off.

It sounds to me as though he has had poor sheds before and the built up pressure of the stuck skin has caused the tip to die. There really isn't much you can do at this point - if you touch or try to get the skin off the tail will likely come off. If you can get some kind of antibiotic wound cleanser then use that daily to prevent infection.

How old is the snake?, how big?

If a section of the tail is coming off but is still hanging on it would probably be best to have a vet remove it. If the section is just flopping around it makes it impossible for the wound to heal over and may lead to infection.
